While they were in the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas arrived and gave Jesus a kiss on the cheek signaling the soldiers which man to arrest. Angrily the disciples jumped to their feet and attacked the soldiers. But Jesus cried out: "Put up your weapons, for all those who live by the sword shall die by the sword." Peter struck one of soldiers cutting his ear off. Jesus healed the soldiers ear and they lead him away. The soldiers took him to Caiaphas, the high priest. Where he was questioned about his teachings. Finally Caiaphas asked if Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God? And Jesus replied you have spoken the truth. Caiaphas then condemned him to death for blasphemy and sent him to the Roman governor. The soldiers mocked him asking him who struck him and spit on him while he was blind folded, but Jesus did not reply. Once Jesus arrived at Pilate's throne he was questioned again if he was the king of the Jews. Pilate concluded that he could find no fault in Jesus, so he sent Him to King Herod; who also did not want to be responsible for Jesus' death so he sent him back to Pilate.

Pilate continued questioning him and in hopes to appease the crowd he had Jesus beaten. He was beaten with the cat of nine tails so badly that his flesh was falling off of his body. The soldiers placed a crown of thorns on his head in order to mock him as the king. Pilate then asked the crowd to release Jesus or a prisoner named Barabbas. The crowd was so angry and hostile toward Jesus they shouted to release Barabbas. At this point Pilate said he washed his hands of this matter because he found no fault in Jesus. Nevertheless to please the mob, he freed Barabbas and sentenced Jesus to be crucified. Jesus was led through the streets carrying his cross headed to Golgotha. Along the way he fell beneath the weight and the soldiers had to get an on looker to assist Jesus. Once they got to Golgatha they drove nails into Jesus' hands and feet and then dropped the cross into a hole. Death on the cross was one of the most brutal deaths. Jesus hung on the cross suffocating and in agony from the beatings.

The scornful people watching his execution mocked him and one of the thieves crucified with him said if you are the Christ save yourself. The soldiers fastened a sign that read Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. He suffered and endured all of this knowing he was taking on all the sins of the world for our salvation. He could see his mother in the crowd watching him die so he told the disciple John to take care of his mother. He cried out "My God my God why hast thou forsaken me?" Then it became dark and the veil in the temple was rent. The soldiers wanting to make sure he was dead took a sword and pierced his side and in doing so fulfilled the prophesy that no bones would be broken. He was taken down from the cross by a man named Joseph who buried Jesus' body in his own tomb. Where He raised from the dead in 3 days.
