1. The Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for my life.

First Commandment: "Thou shalt have no other Gods before me." Exodus 20:3. (Rejecting inspiration makes a god of our intellect)

 

David’s Teaching: "…Thou has magnified thy word above all thy name." Psalm 138:21

Christ’s Teaching: "…Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matt. 4:4

 

Paul’s Teaching: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…" Phil 3:16

2. My purpose in life is to seek God with my whole heart and to build my goals around His priorities

Second Commandment: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image…" Exodus 20:4-5

 

David’s Teaching: "Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and they that seek him with the whole heart." Psalm 119:21

Christ’s Teaching: "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness: and all these things shall be added unto you." Matt. 6:33

 

Paul’s Teaching: "…I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ…" Phil. 3:8

3. My body is the living temple of God and must not be defiled by the lusts of the world

Third Commandment: "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain…" Exodus 20:7

Nathan’s reproof of David’s immorality: "…By this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme…" II Sam. 12:1-4

 

Daniel’s Example: "But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself…" Daniel 1:8

Christ’s Teaching: "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications…and defile the man" Mark 7:21-23

 

Paul’s Teaching: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God…if any man defile the temple of God, him shalt God destroy…" II Cor 3:16-17

 

Peter’s Teaching: "…Abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul." II Peter 2:11

4. My church must teach the foundational truths of Scripture and reinforce my basic convictions.

Fourth Commandment: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Exodus 20:8

 

God’s Promise: "If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." I Chron. 7:14

 

David’s Teaching: "Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name in the beauty of holiness." Psalm 29:21

Christ’s Teaching: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves: Ye shall know them by their fruits…" Matt 7:15-16

 

Paul’s Teaching: "…What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness…Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord…" II Cor. 6:14-17

5. My children and grandchildren belong to God, and it is my responsibility to teach them Scriptural principles, Godly character, and basic convictions.

Fifth Commandment: "Honor thy father…" Exodus 20:12 A child’s honor permits a father to teach.

 

God’s Instruction: "And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: An thou shalt teach them to thy children…" Deut. 6:6-7

 

David’s Teaching: "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Psalm 127:3

Christ’s Teaching: "…Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." Matt. 19:14

 

Paul’s Teaching: "(A Child) …is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father" Gal. 4:1-2

 

"…We exhorted and comforted and charged every on of you as a father doth his children" I Thess. 2:11

6. My activities must never weaken the Scriptural convictions of another Christian.

Sixth Commandment: "Thou shalt not kill." Exodus 20:13 This can also be applied in a spiritual sense.

 

Solomon’s Warning: "Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit…" Prov. 28:10

Christ’s Warning: "But whoso shall offend on of these little ones which be3lieve in me it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were cast into the sea." Mat. 18:6

 

Paul’s Teaching: "…But judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way." Rom. 14:13

7. My marriage is a lifelong commitment to God and to my marriage partner.

Seventh Commandment: "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Exodus 20:14

 

God’s Creation Purpose: "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh." Gen. 2:24

 

Solomon’s Warning: "…Whoso commiteth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul." Prov. 6:32

Christ’s Teaching: "…What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matt. 19:6

 

Paul’s Teaching: "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth,; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adultress…" Rom. 7:2-3

8. My money is a trust from God and must be earned and managed according to Scriptural principles.

Eight Commandment: "Thou shalt not steal." Exodus 20:15

 

God’s Instructions: "Thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth…" Deut. 8:15

 

Solomon’s Warning: "…In the revenues of the wicked is trouble." Prov. 15:6

 

Malichi’s Warning: "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me…in tithes and offerings." Mal. 3:8

Christ’s Teaching: "If therefore ye have been faithful in the unrighteousness of mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?" Luke 16:11

 

Paul’s Teaching: "For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." I Tim. 6:10

9. My words must be in harmony with Scripture, especially when reproving and restoring a Christian brother.

Ninth Commandment: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." Exodus 20:16

 

Solomon’s Instruction: "The heart of the righteous studieth to answer…" Prov. 15:28

 

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue…" Prov. 18:21

 

"Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to another." Prov. 25:9

Christ’s Teaching: "For by they words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." Matt. 12:37

 

"Moreover if they brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and me alone." Matt. 18:15

 

Paul’s Teaching: "Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one…" Gal. 6:1

10. My affections must be set on things above, not on things in the earth.

Tenth Commandment: "Thou shalt not covet they neighbors house…nor anything that is thy neighbor’s." Exodus 20:17

 

Job’s Testimony: "…The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away: blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21

Christ’s Teaching: "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Matt. 6:20-21

 

Paul’s Teaching: "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." Col. 3:2
